Local banking agent brings food aid closer to 2,000 families in South Kalimantan

Ijay runs a BRILink agency in Jelapat 2 village, in Barito Kuala regency, South Kalimantan, Indonesia.

BRILink agents provide banking transactions outside bank branches, and Ijay started his agency in 2015 because nearby bank offices were 10 to 15 kilometres away.

His outlet now handles about 3,000 transactions a month and is a distribution point for non-cash food assistance to around 2,000 beneficiary families.

The service lets recipients access government aid closer to home.

Ijay has also expanded into several local businesses and employs 10 people from his neighbourhood.

He refers nearby small-business owners who need financing to a local BRI unit.

The account gives no further plans or next steps.
