Rupiah Edges Higher as Oil Prices and US Dollar Index Fall

The Indonesian rupiah strengthened slightly against the US dollar at the opening of trading on Monday, October 12, 2026.

It reached Rp17,894 per dollar, compared with Rp17,899 at the previous close.

An analyst said lower oil prices and a weaker US dollar index helped support the currency.

Those markets fell after US President Donald Trump spoke about an energy agreement with Russia, which has said it is ready to supply more diesel and oil to global markets.

Bank Indonesia also absorbed Rp30 trillion through an auction of securities, which the analyst said could help keep the rupiah stable.

Market participants remain concerned about consumer confidence and the handling of disasters and fires in Kalimantan and Sumatra.

The analyst expected the rupiah to trade between Rp17,870 and Rp17,900 that day.
