Mexico’s industrial activity grows at its fastest pace since 2023
Mexico’s industrial activity rose 3.6% from a year earlier in August, its fastest annual growth in 34 months.
The increase was supported by a recovery in manufacturing, which grew 3.2% year over year after 12 months of declines.
Construction also grew strongly, led by civil engineering works, though it was flat compared with July.
For the year through August, industry was up only 0.8%, with manufacturing still down 0.3%.
This matters because manufacturing supports suppliers, transport and business services, so a lasting recovery could lift other parts of the economy.
But uncertainty over US tariffs and the trade agreement is weighing on the outlook for vehicles and auto parts.
The sources say continued growth is not yet certain.
Mexico’s industrial activity grew 3.6% year on year in August, its strongest result in 34 months, since October 2023.
The monthly Industrial Activity Indicator rose for a fifth consecutive month, according to Inegi data reported by El Financiero.
Manufacturing grew 3.2% year on year, its largest increase since January 2023, while construction rose 7.9%.
The overall industrial sector grew 0.6% from July, but activity was up just 0.8% in the year to date.
Economists cited stronger manufacturing, refining and construction, while warning that uncertainty remains over sustained growth and trade conditions.
