Officials from more than 10 countries discuss cities in Luoyang

Nearly 100 city officials, political figures and scholars from more than 10 countries met in Luoyang, in China’s Henan province, on October 11.

They agreed that cities should put people first, protect their history while developing, pursue greener growth and learn from different cultures.

The gathering was called the 2026 World Mayors Dialogue in Luoyang and focused on preserving the heritage of ancient capitals and exchanging ideas about urban culture.

Participants discussed how cities can balance heritage protection, innovation and quality of life.

Luoyang’s mayor said the city shares its culture and welcomes cultural exchange; its peonies have been displayed in cities including Tours, France, and Milan, Italy.

The three-day event also included visits to historic sites and a manufacturing base, as well as discussions on preserving heritage, strengthening manufacturing and renewing ancient cities.

The participants’ stated goal is to build cities that balance development with cultural preservation and environmental care.
