India and Czech Republic agree to expand defence industry ties

India and the Czech Republic agreed to expand defence industry cooperation during talks in New Delhi on October 13.

India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met Karel Havlíček, the Czech Republic’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade.

The two sides discussed existing cooperation and welcomed several joint ventures already set up between the countries.

They said closer work could support India’s Make in India initiative and its aim of becoming more self-reliant.

The India-Czech Joint Defence Committee will help identify ways to deepen industrial ties.

The leaders also discussed peace and security, saying greater cooperation was needed to maintain regional stability.

Havlíček is on a four-day visit to India, with planned meetings with ministries, trade groups and businesses, as well as visits to industries in Bengaluru and Mumbai.
