Kayce Struggles With His Father's Legacy in Marshals Season 2
In the second episode of Marshals’ second season, Kayce worries that he is becoming like his father, John Dutton.
A case involving a former deputy and the deputy’s loyal son prompts Kayce to speak about family loyalty and choosing a different path.
Kayce is also trying to decide how to guide his own son, Tate, who is 17 and sees John as a hero.
He has not told Tate the truth about his grandfather, and showrunner Spencer Hudnut says Kayce is still working through his own feelings about John’s death.
Hudnut says Kayce would not want to damage Tate’s image of someone he admires, and the coming weeks will bring tension between father and son.
Separately, Cal tells his team he has cancer and will undergo chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.
His story this season will involve learning to accept help from the people around him.
Kayce is still struggling with his relationship with his late father, John Dutton, in Season 2, Episode 2 of Marshals.
He worries that he is becoming like John as he makes decisions about his son Tate’s future.
Thomas Rainwater tells Kayce that he is nothing like his father and advises him to guide Tate toward the path he thinks is best.
Showrunner Spencer Hudnut says Kayce is unlikely to tell Tate the truth about John because Tate idolizes his grandfather.
Hudnut says the season will bring father-son tension as Kayce wrestles with his past and tries to guide Tate into manhood.

I think Kayce is still wrestling with his own relationship with John.
Tate has endured so much, so to come clean and sort of drag down one of Tate's heroes is something Kayce would never do.
There's no shame in being loyal to family, but just because he marched through hell, that doesn't mean you have to become the Devil.
