Autumn colours draw crowds and traffic to eastern Canada’s parks

The fall colours have reached their peak in Quebec, where maple trees are turning yellow, red and orange.

Visitors are flocking to see them at parks such as Mont-Orford National Park in the Eastern Townships.

On Saturday, October 10, cars were backed up as people tried to enter the park.

Similar crowding is happening at other well-known parks in eastern Canada.

The autumn viewing season lasts about five weeks, and many people plan trips around the peak colours, often near Canadian Thanksgiving.

Because visitors choose the same destinations at the same time, the rush can strain natural parks and create traffic jams known in English Canada as “leaf jams.”

I've been waiting for forty minutes. I've tried both entrances to the park: I think I'll turn around too if it doesn't move any faster. But I'm hopeful!

I followed the colour map published online, and this was the best time to be here.
