Labour holds Starmer’s former seat in byelection, beating the Greens

Labour kept the seat that Keir Starmer once held, with Sagal Abdi-Wali winning ahead of Green leader Zack Polanski.

The Greens came second, their second-best byelection result.

Labour’s deputy leader said the win showed some voters who had drifted away were backing the party again.

Turnout was 38.7%, so many voters did not take part.
