Cyberattack Disrupts Refrigeration at French Supermarkets

A cyberattack has affected refrigeration systems at several supermarkets in France.

Coopérative U, which runs Hyper U, Super U, U Express and Utile stores, confirmed that some of its stores were hit from October 11.

Media reports say other chains, including Intermarché, E. Leclerc, Carrefour and Monoprix, were also affected.

The reported target was refrigeration control software, and attackers may have forced systems to heat rather than cool.

Reports say two stores in Haguenau lost merchandise worth €270,000, but the full scale of the damage is not confirmed.

Refrigeration is essential for keeping fresh food safe, so the incident could affect food supplies and cause further losses.

Coopérative U said its teams were working with refrigeration specialists to restore systems, and an investigation is expected to establish what happened.
