Stryker to invest about $400 million in CMR Surgical alliance

Stryker, a medical technology company based in Portage, Michigan, has formed a strategic alliance with CMR Surgical, a robotics company based in Cambridge, England.

Stryker plans to invest about $400 million (£300 million) in CMR through preferred equity.

The investment is intended to support innovation and the global commercialization of CMR’s Versius surgical robot portfolio.

Stryker will be the portfolio’s exclusive U.S. sales agent.

The agreement also gives Stryker an exclusive option to acquire all of CMR’s outstanding equity in the future.

The investment is subject to customary closing conditions, and any future acquisition would be subject to the agreement’s terms.
