Singapore venture firm plans startup academy in Japan's Iwate Prefecture
Insignia Ventures Partners and Iwate Prefecture plan to create a startup academy in Iwate, northeastern Japan.
The project aims to train young people from Japan and Southeast Asia and help connect the two regions.
The academy would be the first campus outside Singapore for Insignia Ventures Academy, whose Singapore program has produced more than 250 graduates.
The planned site is a former high school in Hanamaki, south of the prefectural capital, Morioka.
Iwate plans to sell the property to the firm and is considering renovation subsidies.
The prefecture hopes the project will attract investment and support regional revitalization as it faces an aging population.
