TCS says US is unlikely to target tech firms based on where they are domiciled
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest IT services company, says it does not expect the US to target technology firms because of their home country.
The comments follow a US decision to suspend eight companies, including TCS, from a green card application programme.
TCS chief executive K Krithivasan said the move was driven by concerns about local jobs, and that it has no material impact on the company.
TCS applied for about 10 green cards last year and made fewer than 300 H-1B visa applications, many for people already in the US.
The US is TCS’s largest market by revenue, and the company says the US midterm election result will not change its long-term plans there.
More than half of its over 30,000 US employees are local hires.
TCS has previously said it plans to add 15,000 people in the US over five years, hiring people with the required skills regardless of nationality.

He said US government actions are more likely to reflect sensitivities around local employment.

Krithivasan said the suspension would have no material impact on TCS.
TCS said it has a long-term strategy in the US, its biggest market by revenue, and that the election outcome would not change it.
