Daewoong Pharma to build sterile microneedle drug plant in South Korea

South Korean drugmaker Daewoong Pharma is building a sterile microneedle plant at a Daewoong Bio site in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.

Microneedle patches deliver medicine through tiny needles and may make taking treatment more convenient.

The facility is intended to use sterile processes and automated production designed for these patch medicines.

Daewoong plans to make next-generation products there, including a semaglutide candidate for obesity and diabetes.

The company aims to secure GMP approval in the first half of next year so it can supply clinical trials and prepare for commercial production.

The work is meant to create a manufacturing base for potential future commercialization, including globally.
