Cheval des Andes makes its first wine at its own Mendoza winery

Cheval des Andes is a winery in Mendoza, Argentina, founded in 1999 as a partnership between Bordeaux’s Château Cheval Blanc and Terrazas de los Andes.

It makes one wine, using grapes from its own vineyards across about 50 hectares in Las Compuertas and the Uco Valley.

Its 2026 harvest was the first made at the winery’s own facility, ending its reliance on outside facilities.

The new winery lets the team process grapes from each vineyard parcel separately and control the final blend more closely.

The project is also increasing Cabernet Sauvignon in the wine, alongside Malbec, to pursue more freshness, elegance and aging potential.

This is a different growth strategy from adding more wines: Cheval des Andes is investing in its facilities while keeping a single label.

The 2026 harvest marks the start of production at the new winery, while changes to the vineyards and winemaking approach will take time.
