Britney Spears releases a 2001 song co-written with Justin Timberlake
Britney Spears has released “She’ll Never Be Me,” a song she recorded in 2001 with co-writer Justin Timberlake.
She made it for her third album, Britney, but it was left unfinished and dropped in favour of other songs.
Timberlake sang background vocals on the track.
The song is one of five additional tracks planned for a 25th anniversary edition of Britney, due out Nov.
6.
Spears has said she will not return to the music industry, and she sold the rights to her music catalog to Primary Wave earlier this year.
She was released from a 14-year conservatorship in 2021, after which she said she did not want to make music when it benefited her family by ignoring her work.
The new release gives listeners a previously unheard track from the period when Spears and Timberlake were a couple, from 1999 to 2002.

What people are saying
The song didn’t go on the album not because the label didn’t like it. There was just way better stuff to go with.
They blend in there very well together. It’s kind of a shame that they never really got to do more. It would have been cool to have that kind of sweetheart duet.
