Energy Transition Minerals prepares Penouta mine restart application

Energy Transition Minerals is working towards restarting the Penouta tin, tantalum and niobium mine in Galicia, Spain.

The company acquired the project in July and has registered the mining titles under its Spanish subsidiary.

It has also provided about €2.45 million in guarantees for restoring the site.

The mine’s existing Section C concession is facing appeals before Spain’s Supreme Court, and the company says it will lodge a new application after the court rules.

It expects to finish the application documents by the end of October 2026.

The documents will cover the mine plan, restoration, environmental and social impacts, and effects on the local economy.

A pre-feasibility study, which will assess a possible route to restarting production, is targeted for the first quarter of 2027.

The company is also assessing whether historical mining material could supply feldspathic sands for agricultural use, but commercial terms and logistics remain under review.
