Spanish employers must notify staff of internal job vacancies

Spanish employers must inform staff about available jobs within their company, whatever the employees’ contract type.

The rule covers part-time, temporary, fixed-discontinuous and remote workers, who may otherwise have fewer chances to learn about openings.

It is intended to help workers move into more stable jobs or increase their working hours.

Failing to give the required notice can bring a fine for a minor offence, ranging from €70 to €750 depending on its severity.

The amount can depend on factors such as how many workers were affected and whether the employer ignored earlier warnings.

Employers must notify staff before filling a vacancy with an outside hire, but the law does not require a specific method; companies can use email, an intranet or workplace notices.
