Former Turkish minister questioned in fund investigation

Former Turkish Family and Social Services Minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya and her husband, İlyas Kaya, were questioned as suspects on Oct.

7.

The investigation concerns their transactions involving shares in Özata Denizcilik and subsequent fund movements.

Kaya said she bought about 250,000 lots of the company’s shares in April 2026 and sold them in August and September.

She said she briefly invested the proceeds in a Tera fund, then withdrew them and transferred them to an account designated by the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund.

Both Kaya and her husband denied receiving guidance or privileged information for their investment decisions.

Kaya also resigned from the ruling Justice and Development Party.

Investigators are reviewing their statements alongside financial data and other evidence, and the Capital Markets Board is expected to file a criminal complaint against the couple.
