Georgia beats Alabama 20-17 after disputed late pass interference no-call

Georgia beat Alabama 20-17 on Saturday night at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Late in the fourth quarter, Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell threw toward Rico Scott in the end zone while the team trailed by three points.

Georgia safety KJ Bolden made contact with Scott before the ball arrived, but officials did not call pass interference.

Alabama then lost yards on a sack and punted, and it did not get the ball back.

Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer protested the decision during the game but said afterward that his team needed to control what it could.

The no-call drew anger from fans, while an ESPN/ABC rules analyst said the play should have been called as pass interference.

The disputed decision mattered because a penalty could have given Alabama a chance to move closer to the end zone and tie the game.
