Bayern rule out having two equal head coaches

Bayern have ruled out adopting a two-head-coach model like the one used by Viking Stavanger.

The Norwegian club has been led by Bjarte Lunde Aarsheim and Morten Jensen since they were promoted together in January 2021.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany experienced a similar setup at Anderlecht, where he shared an office, reviewed videos and exchanged ideas with another coach while also playing.

He said shared decision-making can work, but requires investment in the relationship.

Sporting director Max Eberl said the model is unlikely for Bayern, even though Viking’s arrangement appears to be working.

Viking and Bodø/Glimt are level on points and goals at the top of the standings, and Viking is competing for the league title.

The teams are set to meet in the Champions League in Norway, where Bayern began the season with a 5-0 win over Bodø/Glimt and Viking lost 3-1 to Stuttgart.

You have to invest a lot in these relationships - but it is absolutely possible.

In Anderlecht, I experienced exactly that. We shared an office, watched videos, exchanged ideas. And at the same time I was still playing - I know what that demands.

Viking has played big games against Barcelona and Chelsea in the past, but this game is even bigger. We want to enjoy the challenge.
