Scammers threaten Russian parents with loss of child benefits

Scammers in Russia are calling parents while pretending to represent the Social Fund.

They claim that outside transfers have been found and that child benefits could be cancelled.

They then urge people to move their savings to a supposed tax-free transit account.

The Social Fund does not ask people to transfer money to outside accounts.

Questions about family income should be handled through the Gosuslugi service or by visiting the Social Fund, and people should not share login codes.

The warning comes amid other phone scams: Moscow prosecutors said an 85-year-old man was tricked into handing over more than 27 million rubles in money and gold to couriers.

Parents can check benefit questions through official channels rather than following instructions from callers.
