Prosecutors seek 18-year sentence for former baseball player in Yokohama case

Prosecutors have asked a Yokohama court to sentence former pro baseball player Hayato Mishima to 18 years in prison.

He is charged in 10 cases involving 10 women in Yokohama, including alleged sexual abuse, threats and assaults.

The cases include incidents in 2020 and from February to June 2025, and prosecutors say he targeted women walking alone.

They say the offenses were habitual and caused serious harm, including making some victims afraid to walk alone at night.

Mishima's defense disputes or partly disputes the charges involving three victims and has asked for a reduced sentence.

The court is due to deliver its verdict on October 22.
