New box cricket turf opens at Vellore district sports stadium

The new turf gives people in and around Katpadi a place to practise cricket in covered nets with lights.

It costs ₹826 an hour to book, less than the ₹1,500 an hour charged by private facilities, officials said.

The state sports authority will maintain it.

Officials say the turf could help more young people, especially in rural areas, take up cricket.
