Students and unions plan protests and strikes across France on Tuesday

High school students and unions are planning another day of protests and strikes across France on Tuesday, October 13.

The action follows four days of mobilization and is intended to defend public education.

Students are calling for more funding and want the government to abolish Parcoursup, the system used for university applications.

The government has announced that 3,000 substitute teachers will be assigned to schools, and education ministers are due to meet organizations on Monday to discuss transparency in Parcoursup.

Unions are also protesting planned job cuts, pay and working conditions, and some workers outside education have been urged to join the strike.

The continuing protests have raised concern among more than 11,000 medical students because the medical internship entrance exam is at risk.

The scale of Tuesday’s mobilization is not yet known.
