Rafa Jódar matches Djokovic’s run of five straight Masters 1000 last-16 appearances

Rafa Jódar matches Djokovic’s run of five straight Masters 1000 last-16 appearances

Rafa Jódar has reached the last 16 in five straight Masters 1000 events after advancing at the Shanghai tournament.

The 20-year-old Spaniard is the youngest player to achieve that run since Novak Djokovic did so in 2007.

Jódar came back to beat Jiri Lehecka and is due to face Botic van de Zandschulp in Shanghai.

A sixth straight last-16 appearance in Paris could make Jódar the youngest ever to reach that mark; Djokovic was 20 years, two months and 18 days old when he reached his sixth in 2007.

Jódar is also pursuing a place at the ATP Finals in his first year as a professional.

The report says Rafael Nadal and Djokovic needed three years to reach the Finals, while Roger Federer needed four and Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner needed two.
