Zizou Bergs beats Carlos Alcaraz in Shanghai Masters third round

Zizou Bergs beat Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets in the third round of the Shanghai Masters in China.

Bergs won 7-5, 7-6, saving the match after failing to serve it out at 6-5 in the second set.

Alcaraz had won the Japan Open in Tokyo the previous week and was seeking his first Masters 1000 title of 2026.

The defeat ends his Shanghai campaign and his winning run on the Asian tour.

Bergs, a Belgian ranked 39th, advances to the next round, where he will face either defending champion Valentin Vacherot or American Tommy Paul.

The loss also mathematically confirms Alexander Zverev as year-end world number one, according to Marca.

Alcaraz is next scheduled to play the Six Kings Slam in Riyadh from October 21 to 24, if the event can go ahead.
