India’s new-generation wrestlers share lives beyond the medals

India’s wrestling team won six medals at the Asian Games: two gold, two silver and two bronze.

The result was the country’s best wrestling performance at the Games since 1962.

Four athletes in the spotlight were Aman Sehrawat, Antim Panghal, Sujeet Kalkal and Nitesh Siwach.

Their achievements include Aman’s gold, Antim’s success in the 53kg category and Nitesh becoming the first Indian since 1962 to reach an Asian Games Greco-Roman final.

At an event in India, the wrestlers also faced repeated questions about familiar topics such as training, diet and future expectations.

Antim said she had found the interviews and events more tiring than training.

Conversations offered glimpses of their lives beyond wrestling, including Antim’s teddy-bear-themed bag and Nitesh’s background as a milkman’s son.
