WFI seeks US visa reconsideration for nine Indian U23 wrestlers
The Wrestling Federation of India is asking the US Embassy to reconsider visa refusals for nine Indian wrestlers ahead of the U23 World Championships in Las Vegas.
The affected group includes four women: Parveen, Ahilya Shatrughn Shinde, Neha Sharma and Neha Sangwan.
Five Greco-Roman wrestlers were also denied visas, reportedly because they were under 20 and unemployed.
The championships begin on Monday, October 12, and the women’s events are scheduled to start on Wednesday.
That gives the federation a short time to seek clearance for the women, while the Greco-Roman competition starts sooner.
Six Indian women wrestlers and all Indian men’s freestyle wrestlers have received visas.
The WFI says it is making efforts to resolve the cases, but the embassy’s response is still pending.
