Four classic French films set for new releases
Les Films du Jeudi announced releases of four classic French films in its latest lineup.
The Paris-based company’s titles include films by Jean Renoir, Raymond Lamy, Pierre Gaspard-Huit and Jean Becker.
The lineup includes Renoir’s 1924 film “Une vie sans joie”, co-directed by Albert Dieudonné and described as Renoir’s first film.
Tamasa plans to release it in a DVD and Blu-ray box set, followed by a theatrical release in 2027 as part of a retrospective of Renoir’s silent films.
The films have been restored, including two in 4K with support from the French National Film Board, and the lineup also includes the 1954 crime drama “Sophie et le crime.”
Becker’s 1965 comedy stars Jean-Paul Belmondo as a professional seducer who sets out to live off wealthy women.
Its release coincides with an exhibition at the Paris Cinémathèque Française as part of an ongoing Belmondo retrospective.
