Two former Cardinals employees sue team and owner over racial discrimination

Former Arizona Cardinals executive assistant Kendra Hogue and former assistant coach Don Shumpert have sued the team, owner Michael Bidwill and others.

Their lawsuit, filed in Arizona state court on May 26, alleges racial discrimination, retaliation, defamation and constructive termination.

The defendants moved the case to federal court on June 1.

On September 19, a federal judge sent it to arbitration, and the NFL commissioner will select the arbitrator.

Arbitration is a process for resolving disputes outside a public court trial.

The case comes amid wider legal challenges over NFL contracts that require disputes involving teams to go to arbitration.

The article says a separate case brought by coach Brian Flores has seen most claims move toward resolution in open court after initially being sent to arbitration.

It does not say what will happen next in Hogue and Shumpert’s case.
