Alabama fans throw debris after controversial loss to Georgia

Alabama fans throw debris after controversial loss to Georgia

Georgia beat Alabama 20-17 on Saturday night at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.

The game was a matchup between two major Southeastern Conference teams, and Georgia remained unbeaten with the win.

Late in the game, officials did not call a pass-interference penalty on a Georgia player, drawing anger from Alabama fans.

Georgia then sacked Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell, and a later personal foul against Alabama helped Georgia run out the clock.

After the loss, fans threw bottles, cans and other debris onto the field, and Georgia coaches told players to put on their helmets as they left.

Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said he did not expect the crowd’s reaction.

Georgia’s win was expected to move it to the top of the AP Top 25 after Texas, which had been ranked first, lost to Oklahoma.
