Turkish interior minister plans Germany and Italy visits to pursue crime suspects
Türkiye’s Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi says he will soon visit Germany and Italy to strengthen cooperation on returning crime suspects to Türkiye.
He has already discussed the issue with officials in Bulgaria, Georgia and Greece.
Çiftçi says criminal groups sometimes flee abroad when they come under pressure, and he warned that they would still be pursued.
Türkiye is also targeting newer gangs that use teenagers to commit crimes and recruit through social media.
By the end of September, authorities had conducted 1,741 operations against 625 such groups and secured the arrest and imprisonment of 8,170 people, Çiftçi said.
He said Türkiye secured the extradition of 736 people from abroad in the first nine months of the year.
The planned visits are part of efforts to increase cooperation and bring more suspects back to face justice in Türkiye.
