Nana Patekar cremated late Thursday after delay bringing his remains to Pune

Actor Nana Patekar died in Goa on Thursday morning after a cardiac arrest.

His remains were taken to his farmhouse in Donje village, near Pune, for the funeral.

The ceremony took place late that night, with his son Malhar performing the last rites.

Malhar said the family had expected the remains to arrive earlier, but transport took longer than expected.

He said they chose to complete the funeral on Thursday because several hours had passed since his father died.

Hindu funerals are generally held during the day, though practices vary and circumstances can affect the timing.

Patekar was cremated with full state honours, in front of political figures, film industry members and thousands of admirers.

Malhar said his father’s social initiatives in water, education and health would continue.

What people are saying

We were in Goa, and his mortal remains were to be brought to the farmhouse in the village. We expected it to arrive earlier, but it took us some time. We proceeded (with the last rites today) because the tragedy occurred early this morning, so a significant amount of time had already passed. That is why we decided to go ahead with it today,
