Two 1999 Sci-Fi Films Ranked Among the Year’s Best

A ranking looks at five science-fiction movies released in 1999, the final year of the 1990s.

It places Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris fifth and Deep Blue Sea fourth.

Gamera 3 is the conclusion of a trilogy that began in 1995.

Its story brings back the winged creatures called Gyaos and follows an orphaned girl who blames Gamera for her family’s death.

The ranking praises the film’s mix of practical monster effects and computer-generated imagery, as well as its emotional story.

It describes the movie as an overlooked entry in a year it considers especially strong for science fiction.
