CSE plans €110 million for innovation as banks prepare for digital euro

CSE is a consortium that provides services to banks and other financial firms, and its shares are owned entirely by banks.

Its chief executive, Vittorio Lombardi, says the consortium plans to spend €110 million on innovation from 2025 to 2027.

CSE says it handles 30 million transactions a day for 12 million customers and serves more than 200 clients.

Lombardi says the financial sector must strengthen cybersecurity and the resilience of its systems as digital services expand.

He says the expected digital euro could reduce dependence on a small number of multinational payment companies, but would also bring new security and cost challenges.

CSE is due to discuss changes in the financial sector at a conference in Naples on October 16 and 17.
