Zaragoza’s renovated Goya Museum reopens with more space and new works

The Goya Museum in Zaragoza, Spain, has reopened after a major renovation and expansion.

It is run by the Ibercaja Foundation and is based in a 16th-century palace with a new building next door.

The museum now has about 4,660 square metres of exhibition space, up from about 3,700.

New features include an immersive room and virtual reality experiences that let visitors explore Goya’s works and murals.

The museum says technology is there to add context, while Goya’s art remains the focus.

Its opening exhibition brings together more than 40 works borrowed from museums and private collections, and runs until 10 January.

The expanded museum also includes a new centre for research on Goya and a larger display of his prints.
