Mexico business leader urges Sheinbaum to cut deficit and protect credit rating
At the CCE’s 50th anniversary event, business leader José Medina Mora urged President Claudia Sheinbaum to cut Mexico’s fiscal deficit and protect its credit rating.
He said Mexico’s economic growth depends on the government and businesses addressing fiscal, trade and development challenges.
Preserving investment grade can help prevent borrowing costs from rising for the government and private businesses, while a smaller deficit can slow public debt growth.
As the US-Mexico-Canada trade agreement faces a review, Medina Mora called for coordination with Mexico’s Economy Ministry and Foreign Ministry to defend ties with the United States.
He urged more small businesses to join major companies’ supply chains, with access to financing, technology and training.
He also called on companies to train workers to use artificial intelligence and other new technologies while protecting their quality of life.
José Medina Mora, head of Mexico’s Business Coordinating Council, urged President Claudia Sheinbaum’s government to reduce the fiscal deficit and preserve the country’s credit rating.
He said lowering the pace of public borrowing and growing the economy to its full potential were also priorities.
Medina Mora made the appeal at an event marking the council’s 50th anniversary, attended by Sheinbaum.
He said Mexico should coordinate with the Economy Ministry and Foreign Ministry to defend ties with the United States during the review of the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement.
He also called for small businesses to be connected to major companies’ supply chains and for businesses to train workers to use artificial intelligence.

What people are saying
Of course we have to preserve the credit rating, we have to bring down the fiscal deficit, also bring down the pace of debt contracting, but above all grow the economy to its full potential; that is what will really help our country move forward.
And one responsibility we companies have to take on is supporting our employees so they learn to use the tool and this makes them more productive, while at the same time helping us have a better quality of life.
