Microscope video winner disqualified after AI use found

The contest-winning video showed tiny hairs in a child’s airways moving under a microscope.

Scientists questioned the images, and the organizer found that the video did not follow the contest rules because it used AI.

The original winner, Ning Xu, said AI was used to identify and show features in reconstructed images.

The prize went to Nam Nhat Nguyen for a video of a tiny roundworm and a single-celled organism.
