Berardi and wife help student during seizure in Modena

Footballer Domenico Berardi and his wife, Francesca Fantuzzi, helped a student who became ill on a bus in Modena, Italy.

The incident happened around 1 p.m.

on Wednesday as they were having lunch nearby.

Fantuzzi said she believed the student was having an epileptic seizure, and that other students said it had happened before.

She has first-aid training and a defibrillator certificate, and said she and Berardi protected the student's head, turned him onto his side and removed his backpack.

They stayed with him until emergency responders arrived and took him away.

The student later recovered, with no particular consequences reported.

Fantuzzi said first-aid courses should be more widely available so people know how to respond in an emergency.

The incident has renewed attention to calls for first-aid training, especially in schools.
