Investigation identifies British man in Israeli army photo outside Gaza school

A film identifies British citizen Jonathan Burman posing outside a school in Gaza while serving in the Israeli army.

The school, Madrasa al-Farabi, is in Bani Suheila, east of Khan Younis.

Airwars traced the school and found it was not the one named in an Israeli military statement about an attack on a school in December 2023; that school was two kilometres away.

The Israeli military confirmed Burman served in its 55th Brigade, a reserve paratrooper unit.

The investigation says the available evidence warrants further investigation, not a finding of guilt for war crimes.

A member of the UN Commission of Inquiry said London’s Metropolitan Police war crimes unit should investigate Burman.

Burman did not respond to requests for comment, and the sources give no details of any investigation that may follow.
