Jailer 2 faces a Rs 1,000 crore box-office benchmark

Jailer 2 faces a Rs 1,000 crore box-office benchmark

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is due in theatres on October 15 in India, led by the Tamil cinema star.

The film follows 2023’s Jailer, which reportedly became the world’s second-highest-grossing Tamil film.

The business benchmark for the sequel is Rs 1,000 crore, according to producer G Dhananjheyan.

That is an expectation, not a box-office result, and reflects the high hopes for the film.

Producer Kalaipuli S Thanu says Jailer 2 has already done more business than the first film through sales of rights.

The film arrives during a holiday period with no major Telugu or Hindi competition, which industry figures say could help it.

Its box-office performance will show whether it can meet those expectations after its October 15 release.

What people are saying

Tamil cinema cannot be happy with films doing Rs. 50, 100 or 300 crores. We need Rs. 600, 700 and 1000 crores. And we need a film like Jailer 2 to do that.
