Residents seek permanent speed camera after repeated damage in Haute-Saône

A speed camera installed recently on the RN 19 in Pomoy, in eastern France’s Haute-Saône department, has been covered with paint twice.

Residents say it warns drivers about a sharp bend where trucks have repeatedly crashed into homes.

One homeowner says 17 trucks have ended up in or just outside her yard, and local residents have counted more than 60 deaths on the road in 30 years.

The camera is currently in place for only three months, and damage left it unable to operate for several days.

A road diversion was announced in September, but residents expect it will take ten years to open.

They are asking for a permanent camera while they wait.

The prefect will decide whether to install one, taking account of traffic volume and the number of drivers caught.
