Ruud beats Tien as Tsitsipas rallies past Fritz in Shanghai

At the Shanghai Masters in China, Norway’s Casper Ruud beat American Learner Tien 6-4, 7-6(3).

Ruud did not lose his serve and called it one of his best wins this season.

The victory was his first against a top-20 player on a hard court since January.

Ruud has been limited by a back injury and withdrew from the US Open, so the win comes as he tries to build momentum late in the season.

He will next face Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime in the last 16.

Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas also advanced, rallying to beat American Taylor Fritz 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.

The win puts Tsitsipas into the fourth round of a Masters event for only the second time this year.
