Google expands SynthID detection to media from more AI companies
Google has expanded SynthID Detector, a tool for checking whether media carries an AI watermark.
The tool can now check images, videos and audio from OpenAI, NVIDIA and Kakao, in addition to media from Google’s own models.
Google says it plans to add AI-generated media from Apple soon.
SynthID works by detecting an invisible watermark embedded by certain AI models, rather than by judging whether content looks AI-made.
People can upload a file at synthid.com after signing in with a Google, Apple or ChatGPT account.
The tool can only help identify media that carries a SynthID watermark, so it may not detect AI content made without one.
Google says it has watermarked more than 180 billion images and videos and 240,000 years of audio since SynthID launched in 2023.
