TikTok CEO calls for stronger safeguards against AI cybersecurity risks

TikTok CEO Chew Shou Zi spoke about artificial intelligence risks at a conference in Singapore.

He said people may give AI agents permission to act without understanding what they have allowed, such as making purchases with a credit card.

AI agents carry out tasks, while chatbots such as ChatGPT mainly answer questions.

Chew said these tools have also made it cheaper for businesses to create spam, so companies need effective ways to defend their platforms.

He urged people to learn by using AI and said employees should not put trade secrets or private legal information into public chatbots.

Chew said AI’s effects may be overstated in the short term but underestimated over the longer term.

He expects AI to contribute to a scientific breakthrough within the next two to three years, but said it is too early to know whether AI will replace people.
