Tourist’s attempt to scare spider burns down Bali villa

A tourist’s attempt to scare a spider destroyed his Bali villa after he set a piece of paper alight in the bathroom.

The 45-year-old, Gaorap Rana, is from Nepal and was staying in Kuta, Bali.

Wind carried the burning paper to the villa’s thatched roof, which was made from alang-alang grass.

The flames spread quickly and reduced the property and its contents to ruins.

Firefighters and local residents brought the blaze under control after they were called on October 5.

Rana escaped without injury, and nearby homes were not damaged.

It has not been confirmed whether Rana will face further consequences over the fire.
