Canadian Ransomware Negotiator Charged With Conspiracy to Commit Extortion

Edward Dubrovsky, a 54-year-old Canadian ransomware negotiator, was arrested in Pennsylvania and faces federal extortion-related charges.

Prosecutors accuse him of conspiring to threaten the confidentiality of information to demand money, as well as Hobbs Act extortion and conspiracy charges.

The complaint was filed in Texas and remains sealed, so public filings do not explain what he is accused of doing.

Dubrovsky has not been convicted or entered a plea.

Several people familiar with the investigation have linked his case to ShinyHunters, a group associated with a recent hack of the FBI’s jobs website, but the connection has not been confirmed publicly.

The FBI says it has made another arrest involving the group as it pursues leads and evidence.

A judge ordered Dubrovsky held and sent to Texas for a detention hearing.
