Hackers use Bing redirects in Google ads to promote fake Claude installers
Hackers are using Google search ads to send people to fake Claude download pages.
Claude is the name used for the software being imitated, and the campaign targets people looking for its macOS installer.
The ads first direct users through Bing’s legitimate click-tracking address, which then leads through a compromised retailer’s website in South America.
The final page, claude-desk-code[.]com, is designed to look like a real download page and uses checks to hide from some security scanners.
Its fake installer shows a command that resembles the legitimate installation process but instead downloads and runs an unknown payload from an attacker-controlled server.
This matters because users may believe they are installing Claude while malicious code runs in the background.
Hackers are using Google search ads and Bing redirects to promote fake Claude installers that deliver malware.
The technique, called Adception, routes users through Bing's click-tracking endpoint to a compromised South American retailer's website.
The retailer's site redirects users to a fake Claude download page at claude-desk-code[.]com.
The fake installer imitates Claude's macOS installation process but runs a malicious command in the background.
The campaign uses cloaking to make the malicious payload harder for security scanners and direct visitors to detect.
