Naomi Broady questions Alcaraz’s complaints about the tennis schedule
Carlos Alcaraz has criticized the demands of the ATP Tour, saying players are pushed to play too many tournaments and matches.
The Spaniard returned to competition after four and a half months out with a wrist injury and missed this year’s French Open and Wimbledon.
At the Shanghai Masters, he said he planned to be more selective about which tournaments he played.
Former player Naomi Broady said she found his complaints less convincing because he also plays exhibition events, including the Laver Cup and Six Kings Slam.
She noted that top players can choose not to play every tournament, though they may lose some end-of-year bonus money.
Broady also said the sport could suffer if leading players such as Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner cannot keep up with the schedule.

What people are saying
One of the reasons we had to see the players who are getting injured, they [ATP officials] are pushing us too much out of the line sometimes to play a lot of tournaments, to play a lot of matches
I definitely lose sympathy for the argument when you play Six Kings and Laver Cup, whatever other ones there are dotted throughout the year.
The other argument is they don’t have to play every single one.
