Toilet paper found at unmanned Niigata station despite notice saying it was removed

JR East has removed or closed some station facilities, including ticket offices, escalators and clocks.

These changes have drawn complaints from some passengers, who say they make stations less convenient.

At Raikōji Station in Niigata Prefecture, a notice said toilet paper had been removed when the station became unmanned on March 14, 2025.

But a visitor who checked the restroom in late September found toilet paper there.

The restroom was clean and had handrails, while the station showed other signs of cutbacks, including a closed ticket-office window.

The station has few passengers during the day, and local trains stop about once an hour.
